WipeDisk
will clear a diskette of all contents- all directories and files, and the
volume label. This is the quickest way that I have found to erase all of the
files from a diskette. All files, including hidden, system, and read-only files
will be deleted.
The program
will erase all of the files from the diskette, and then remove the volume
label. It will not make the files unrecoverable, nor will it zero out the files
for security.
WipeDisk is
a DOS command line program.
WipeDisk drive /Y
WipeDisk The
command name. You may rename it to whatever you prefer: Personally, I use two
batch files: WipeA and WipeB.
Drive The drive that contains the
diskette that you wish to clear. The only valid options are A: and B:.
Y Really
delete? The default is 'N'. Specify this switch if you really wish to clear the
diskette. Otherwise, the program will only 'detect', and not really 'delete.'
This switch is required to prevent inadvertent deletion of an entire diskette
by simply invoking the command.
Use the
command with caution: it does not prompt you or give you a second chance. If
you inadvertently delete a file or files that you did not want to delete, you
may be able to use one of the "Undelete" commands to get it back, but
I make no guarantees.
